I have Classic 1 with the Dynavector 20XH. What I found to make a huge difference was the phono stage. I started by feeding it into my Denon receiver. Not very inspiring of course. Moved on to a Grant Fidelity P307 tubed phono stage into a NAD 218THX amp and a C162 preamp. The phono stage in the preamp has a very lively and big sound but could border on bright. Through the GF things were definitely smoother but there was a lack of gain for the cartridge. After reading extensively in these forums and others, I bought a Jolida J9. Huge difference! Big open smooth sound and all the gain you could want. Dead quiet, lots of settings for any cartridge and highly tweak able. I am sure this cart through a Mac phono stage would tick all the boxes anyone would want.

Lets compare notes soon. I have a classic one coming in a few weeks, which will be going into my c2300 and mc452. I anticipate we'll both be very happy!

Today I finally pulled out my MOFI copy of Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon and I just could not believe how well it sounded. I have had this record since 1979 and it sounded new with the incredible job MOFI did with 1/2 speed mastering. It sounded better to me than the Blu-Ray version I have. I am very happy with the Classic. |

What loading did you use with the Denon DL-103R? 100 ohm? Thanks!

That's how I load mine into my Whest phono stage, works a treat

Yes, I'm using 100 Ohm with the Zu DL-103. Also had to bump up the trim for MC Phono on the C50 to (approximately) match my other sources.

Thanks for the info on the loading! The manual suggests 100ohm and 40 ohm min. with a SUT. Anyone try the 103R with an SUT?
Do you think it needed trim from the low output, or because of the loading setting? Or both... |
