I dated a girl in Atlanta that drove one.

Cool Chick.

Her dad worked for GM in Michigan and had a collection of them.

They were bad to break the single drive belt, and my gf could change it in 10 mins without getting her hands dirty.

I'll never forget a hot summer day in Atlanta, August, 100 degrees, and the car stopped, she reached in the glove box, grabbed a belt and a couple of end wrenches, popped the deck lid, changed the thing...

all while wearing a beautiful dress and being perfectly coiffed...

Don't see many on the street today anymore but remember them leading to changes in safety standards.

My parents had one, as well as a 1966 with a fastback...

...and then my father rode in a plane with Ralph Nader.

tony-w.......Yes, the were dangerous vehicles, and have long since shown up on the list of the 50 worst automobiles of all times. Back then, we thought they were cool. Young and dumb.

I had a 63 coupe that served me well. I put a camber compensator on the rear suspension and problem was solved. It's funny that good old Ralph went after GM for the Corvair, but neglected VW for the Bug that suffered the same issue, but I guess he was more interested in US press coverage than German. The next body style had the compensator installed from the factory, but the damage was done and the car was discontinued.
Regards,
Jim

Maroon was the most popular color in my area. There was a time when I really wanted a moroon Corvair Monza Spyder.
