Sometimes the best option is to work with a reliable dealer, preferably local to you, but there are some great online dealers as well (for example Ivan aka Masterlu of this site). They may have demo speakers, open box or trade-ins and will know the history and can vouch for the condition. A good dealer will also back up what they sell.

I totally agree. I feel that the dealers near me are being pinched by our present economy......like everyone else....and are offering no bargains

Private sellers are also wanting top dollar at this time Im finding. For example a seller told me his price of "$12500 for Infinity IRS speakers is worth it because to replicate their kind of sound I would need to spend $40K"
