For $42k I could go to the actual Opera every day for the rest of my life and still probably have money left over.

That is one massive collection.

I don't dislike opera or anything, but I couldn't imagine listening to $42,000 worth of opera recordings!!!!

I would think that given the presumption that this collection includes all recorded Opera on vinyl, that there might be some gems in the collection worth some money. By the same token, i am not sure if Craigslist would be the place I would use to advertise such a collection.

The comment that "Some never been put on CD" made me chuckle...

Maybe there is a reason for that...

How can it be appraised at $127k and then selling for $42k.... The actual appraisal is then $42k if it sells at that price.

It reminds me of that collection of 6 millions vinyl and no one wanted to buy that. There just isn't a market for only a numbers game.

It's like I was selling my collection of 5000 Pontiac Fiero's. There's not a buyer for that.

To be fair, the appraised value has nothing to do with what a person is willing to sell it for.

Granted, some appraisals can be way off (both up or down). But sometimes an individual needs to get rid of a valuable item right away and has no time to wait for the right buyer that can appreciate its value. A sale under those situations does not affect the true value of the item. Instead, someone just got a great bargain!
