Default Bryston cd player survey

HI Folks,

Not a week goes by that I do not get a request from a customer about where he can get a Bryston BCD-1 CD Player and I get chewed out for discontinuing ours. I had no choice as the drive we used was a dedicated CD Drive (as opposed to a DVD Drive) and Phillips discontinued them.

Anyway I have found a new CD drive that performs very well and wanted to get an idea from our customers as to whether you think a dedicated CD Player from Bryston is a viable product given todays computer based options.

I'm interested, especially if it's a real good one.

Only unless it sounds better than a DVD drive, or is significantly cheaper.

Your last CDP was excellent sounding and built like a Tank.......if the new one was even close to the original I think there would be enough interest to warrant building it.

I think one with digital inputs that that can serve as a DAC/pre-amp would be a hit. You can then have the best of both world in digital music: an excellent old school CD/SACD player AND the latest in hirez digital file playback. Matched with one of your awesome amps, your speakers, and, well, what else do you need?

I agree. I wouldn't go for it unless there was some other functionality built in.

The two things my next CD player will have is SACD capability and a digital in with DSD capability. I figure if its an SACD player it should already have most of the parts to continue the DSD factor into the digital input. Without those two I won't be buying any regular CD player.

If you do look at a replacement for the BCD line please consider making it flexible by allowing one to use the onboard DACs only and a line out to use it as a transport only.

As DAC technology continues to move forward why not consider a transport only option. It can be used with the BDA DACs and when one updates their DAC such as when Bryston came out with the BDA-2 the customer can still retain and use the transport.

Another option could be to make a duel purpose unit that could be sold as just a transport only OR with a DAC as a replacement for the BCD.

I have yet to find a transport that I am fully satisfied using with my BDA-2.
