Default Burmester surround processors

Does anyone have experience with the 007, 087 or 057 processors?
If they have the same qualities as the stereo amps, they seem tempting.
Although they don't decode the HD audio codecs yet...
Thanks,

Bart

Those processors haven't been updated for a long time, that's why they don't decode HD formats

Any updates about the 107?
It's not on the Burmester website yet.
Until recently, my dealer didn't have any news either.
It has been shown in audio shows though...

Bart, I love Burmester as you know, but I don't think this is an area of strength for them. Not just the technology, as everything can be bought on a chip, but the licensing fees in this area can be huge for a smaller company.

I run an AV processor into my 088 preamp, and it works really well. If the standards change, with they seem to every 3 years, I throw the processor away and get another one

Mind you, this is because I want to listen to music on this system as well. If it was just movies, etc, I'm not sure I would have added Burmester amps.

HD codecs are really just losslessly compressing and expanding LPCM at whatever bit depth and sample frequency was used. Which is why Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD and LPCM all sound the same - they are the same. So your Oppo can do all the lifting here.

Thank you for your thoughts, Glisse. What is your first name by the way?

You might be right.
Although, my idea was to simplify things to one box, with the hope that the Burmester processor would be at least as good for stereo as the Top Line pre-amps. And the rest would at least equal the Bryston, Krell, and Classé...

What processor do you use?
Is it good for multichannel music too?

I really listen a lot to 5.0 SACD's, that is why I'm interested in a good processor.

The Marantz has drawn my attention too. Not too expensive, seems very decent, and indeed, after a couple of years you can just swap it for the new model.

Bart, I have sent you a PM with my name.

I understand your objective. It is a challenge

I use an Onkyo PR-SC886 - it is unlistenable with music. But good with movie soundtracks. I do listen to SACD in this system, but with an MSB UMT (modified Oppo) sending a 2 channel DSD stream to an MSB Platinum IV Signature DAC. The AV processor is not involved at all. I gave up on 5 channel music, but then there are only a few multi-channel SACDs I like. I find something vaguely unsettling with SACD, it always sounds slightly artificial to me. Can't say why, though. I can recognise the benefits of multi-channel music playback, but find 2 channel hard enough to get right

I did not find the BDP-95 to sound great for music. I use that in another system now as a replacement for a Marantz SA-8260 multi-channel SACD player which died, and the Marantz was much, much better. But now there seems to be few multi-channel SACD players around.

The new Marantz processor does sound promising.
