I had to reshuffle my cabinet around to make room for it. Hope the USB cable won't pull the unit around too much, the QB-9 is rather small in size. Looking forward to receiving the DAC. Time to think about a small laptop to drive it...

Can the current DX-5 owners comment on the possible fan noise? Is it anywhere near the level of Oppo BDP-95?

Thanks--Alex

How are you hearing fan noise on the BDP-95? I'm super sensitive to that and can't hear a thing when playing music.

Thanks guys for both replies.

I do have sensitive ears. For example, I wake up even if there is even a tiny noise. For the BDP-95 I have, I can hear very clearly from 12-15 feet. Any quiet moment in music, if the fan is on, I'm bound to hear it and be annoyed.

I am considering going the Esoteric route but I have doubts regarding my large HD files collection that I play from DVD-A disks that I write. I suspect that with an Esoteric transport or player, I'd have to use a Mac or PC, which I really don't want to do. So, as you can see, I'm a bit stuck here and I think I'll need to audition a DX-5.

Just took my DX-5 to the Dutch importer, next week I should be able to pick it up with the DSD upgrade installed.

Waited for the upgrade since August 2013, hopefully it was worth the wait.

Do miss it already, once you get used to the comfort (and quality) of streaming audio, not easy to go back to finding a CD in my collection.
Now listening to the new Coldplay CD through my Wadia 381i, not bad also :-)
