Lots of new vinyl re-issues, and clearance pieces on SoundStageDirect.com
Lots of rock titles, if that's your thing. I have bought from them, and customer service is first-rate. I got an LP with a pinch warp in it, and they sent another out, right away. |

Most of the LP's in my current collection cost $4.00 each used and are in great shape.
I have purchased maybe 9 or 10 new LP's from Acoustic Sounds out the 300 that I currently own. These remastered analog recordings do sound fantastic! Sorry, but I can't recommend any new releases in the LP format as they are most certainly digitally recorded in the first place. Digitally recorded music belongs on CD/SACD/XRCD ect., not on a LP in my opinion. |

Jim.......Nuts is putting it mildly. Off the deep end, around the curve to fast, through the guard rail, and over the cliff insane would be closer to it.

I was buying MFSL Half Speed Masters for $20-$25 (?) each in the late 70's or early 80's. It was probably nuts, but that was as good as it got back then. Haven't bought any more vinyl since the CD came out.
But frankly, spending $50 on an album that makes your feet tap seems to make more sense than spending $50 on a rock to sit on your amplifier and such. There were $4 albums played on my GE clam shell stereo that I have memories of enjoying as much as anything I've ever listened to. So spend the $50, it is supposed to be about the music, and you might find something that gives you one of those memories.

The ones that are recording in true analog these days are mostly obscure unknowns that don't have the financial means for a fancy studio to do digital. I'm not a fan of the obscure. Lots of remasters that were originally done in analog are being remastered in analog for vinyl release ,as well as being remastered digitally for CD/SACD format. I'm a long time vinyl user and have noticed differences in sound when I hear a record from say" Coldplay" that was recorded digitally then pressed into vinyl vs the CD version. The CD version in cases like this will always sound better to me than the digitally recorded LP version. Last edited by gregswaim; 07-28-2009 at 11:40 AM. |
