Cécile McLorin Salvant
et le Jean-François Bonnel Paris Quinter

via Qobuz

I think this must be her first album.
You can clearly hear her talent already.

BESSIE
Music from the HBO Film

via Qobuz

Old and new together, and it gels well.
Queen Latifah is amazing.

The soundtrack to the 2015 Bessie Smith biopic, Bessie: Music from the HBO Film features original and newly recorded songs strongly associated with the legendary vocalist. Starring award-winning actress and singer Queen Latifah, Bessie focuses on the life of the iconic jazz and blues singer. One of the most successful and influential performers of her era, Smith headlined her own tours and rubbed shoulders with such musical giants as singer Ma Rainey and trumpeter Louis Armstrong. Here, Latifah performs a handful of songs Smith recorded including "Young Woman Blues," "Weepin' Woman Blues," "Long Old Road," and others. Also included are new recordings from such vintage-inspired acts as Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks, Tamar-Kali, and Cecile McLorin Salvant, as well as original sides by Armstrong, Fats Waller, and of course, Smith. ~ Matt Collar

Sweet Emma Barrett - And her New Orleans Music
via Qobuz

Mrs Barrett sounds a bit fresher here.
She was always surrounded by good musicians.

The Cd had stopped playing your honour, I retired to sleep shortly afterwards. I did doze to Horace Silver in mitigation last night. Was awake today on me early morn bike ride to the supermarket with 7 steps to Heaven upon me Walkman, and it sounded jolly fine. There is no escape from my aged Sony H3 in ears; no mids, but great for jazz.

Mose Allison, "Your Mind Is on Vacation". Some clever turns of phrase in the lyrics.

This arrived this week:

Miles Davis - Porgy And Bess
Orchestra under the direction of Gil Evans
MoFi SACD

It was lacking in my Miles collection.
