If I were to hazard a guess, that's a rectifier tube. Converts AC to DC.

How would that work in a 6SN7 driver socket? Seems like it is a funky 6SN7 equivalent?

I think the 6SN7 is a driver tube, which does pre-amplification. You wouldn’t use a rectifier tube in a 6SN7 socket.
