Of course they may still be fine sounding speakers and work well with your amp. The issue is if, say, someone with a Paradigm speaker spec'ed at 91 dB ditches it and purchases a Tekton or Zu spec'ed at 96 dB, they will find that there is no increase in volume at the same preamp settings. Because Paradigm specs are right on the money and the others inflate theirs so as to have greater appeal to those with low power amps. |

I can confirm this...and I've only had the 1st upgrade to the pre Dennis offered. I have not sent back yet for most recent upgarde. No time?!?

After talking to two techs I've decided not to pursue the 12v option for the input tube. One guy thought it was possible but worried about noise. The other said that putting another transformer did carry a noise danger. On top of that he said that it looks like all of the heaters are being fed from a common supply and unloading the input tube could cause an over voltage on the output tubes. Both were going by the picture that Dennis included in the manual emailed to me.
So I decided not to risk screwing up this amp just for the sake of being able to try a few more tubes out. I have several combinations that I really like and will just stick with those going forward. |

The Gold Dust Twins
Christmas came early for me. Yesterday I received my new ZU Soul 6 speakers and the Dennis Had Inspire KT88 SEP at the same time.
The KT88 SEP along with the LP-2030 Preamp (what Dennis calls The Gold Dust Twins) and the ZU Soul 6s are a match made in heaven. I haven't done any tweaking or tube rolling yet, but out of the box it is spectacular to my aged ears. https://flic.kr/p/2mGiZk9 https://flic.kr/p/2mGeN4k Last edited by DRHamp; 11-03-2021 at 11:47 AM. |

I have a question??? Will a Type 50 tube work in the 45 amp? Dennis has been slow to respond lately? Probably busy building 2030's?!? Still can't believe the performance of that pre at that price point?!?

I had Dennis build mine to accept 5 pin variants and my favorites are the Acme 274B and the EML 274B Mesh. Since your 2030 is probably the 4 pin flavor I would find a WE 274A (prices are not as crazy as 274B), a Takatsuki 274A (has to be custom made), or the EML 274A. The reason I know how these 4 pin variants sound is I use the WE 274A in my Inspire 45 and have tried the EML 274A, 80, and 5z3. I have also used the Full Music 274A and it is pretty nice. Believe me...any WE rectifier blows away NOS American variants and the current production models by a long shot!
