Glenn, Thanks for the search guidance. It helped immediately. I’m an hour south of Cleveland in Wayne Co. There is the Alliance Rifle Club an hour away in Malvern about 15 minutes SE of Canton. I will check it out.

On the Alliance Rifle Club website they state they are the home range for the Ohio-Penn Rifle league. Maybe you’re familiar with it?

May never have found it without your help. Thanks again.

Cheers,

Scott

My pleasure.
Don't be afraid of shooting competitions. Great fun and you will learn tons of good info. Shoot for the enjoyment of shooting against yourself. If you do better than others that's the icing.
Here's a link to some good 223 load info if you really get into shooting your AR.
http://www.radomski.us/njhp/cart_tech.htm
Also, check out books by David Tubbs (several times nat'l champion) and Glen Zediker. GZ was sort of the "guru of the AR" and his books (sold direct or thru Amazon, etc.) cover most aspects of shooting the AR and I find them quite readable.

Thanks for the information, Glenn. I’ve been checking out the books. Just happened to have lunch with a friend today and I asked if he lived near Alliance Rifle Club. He not only lives by it but his father-in-law (who lives across the street from him) has land I can shoot on.

Lots of stuff coming together. It’s been a good week.

Cheers,

Scott

Congrats on your new rifle! Enjoy getting familiar with it and learning to shoot it well. Depending on your choice of optic you could easily stretch that out to the distances Glenn mentioned above. With the 18" barrel and 1:7 twist rate you can shoot 75-77gr loads that will remain stable out to longer distance than the 55gr loads.

Have fun!

Thanks, Terry. Thanks for the load info as well. I’m looking forward to learning everything I can.

Cheers,

Scott
