I switched them out for a pair of 6f6g from the mishmash of tubes there on the coffee table. There was the sound I know so well and absolutely love from my other Inspire amps (custom Universal, PSE, and 6V6er). Wonderful!
I have yet to listen to KT170s. My expectations are that they will sound very similar to KT120 & KT150. Same manufacturer, same basic design. KT120 and KT150 sound very similar in both of my amps. The KT170 was designed to handle higher voltages and produce more power, but I have read nothing indicating that they produce a significantly different sound. In an amp designed for KT120 or KT150, a KT170 won't even produce any additional power.

In an amp specifically designed for KT170, one should realize a significant power increase.

I tried mine with the KT170 and they didnÂ’t wow me. Not that they sounded bad though. I still prefer the KT77s or KT88s if I need a bit more power.

IÂ’ve been trying to reach Dennis for a few weeks via email on his pre-amps but he has yet to respond. Is anyone able to reach him?

Default Phono Preamp Prototype

I'm very happy to announce that I've been working on a phono preamp.
I used an LP-3 chassis that was made incorrectly, (can't let it go to waste).
The buffer tube hole in the back was offset to the left so I added a hole beside it and put a couple of Russian voltage regulators in because I like the light show and needed to fill the holes with something.
We have a smaller chassis for the production prototype that is configured differently and doesn't use VR tubes.
It sounds really good but Dennis hasn't given it a final evaluation yet.
I'll keep you posted on it's progress.

Looking good. What will the tube complement be?

Hey Cdrdel, the tubes are 6SL7s.
I'm running a 5U4 rectifier right now.

I'd be very interested in a phono preamp, for the record.

That looks very nice, I'm liking those knurled knobs as well.
