The Bryston BIT products are Torus units with a Bryston faceplate. This per James and a very nice gentleman at Torus named Matt, I believe, who not only spent a good deal of time on the phone with me, but who also called me back some weeks later to see what I had decided to do.

Torus is a subsidiary of Plitron industries. Torus makes the isolation transformer themselves, and I guess licenses the surge suppression from Surgex. Torus also makes the ITs for Furman and other companies, but says their own and the Bryston ones are their very best.

Incidentally, I believe if someone just wants the surge suppression alone, the Surgex branded units are a bit lower priced. The lady I spoke with at Surgex said the other brands throw in more bells and whistles. I presume the licensing fees add a bit to the cost as well.

Take care.

You gents are dangerous. Thanks for the detailed and helpful replies. As noted in post 25 on this thread, I have one dedicated 20-amp circuit for subs and TV and another for gear. I use an APC S20 for source equipment, because of the battery backup (Kal Rubinson had positively reviewed the S15 in Music in the Round #14).

Would one BIT-20 handle my 6BSST and two 4BSST amps?

Cheerio from 26C/79F Napa Valley,

Rich

You probably have them on two separate lines now, so the answer would be no. The 6BSST draws 2100 watts alone at WOT.

Rich--Why don't you call Torus and speak with Matt? He will help with very detailed info on what to use, how to use it and why. And he doesn't mind a bit if you tell him you want the Bryston flavor.

I don't see why not, I have 2 4B-SST's and a 6B-SST plugged into a Furman IT-Reference running off of a single 15 amp line and have never had a problem. The amps absolutely sing. I have never tripped the breaker and could detect no degradation in performance through the Furman when compared to plugging the amps directly into the wall spread over 2 outlets on different 15 amp circuits.

*********
I have 7BSSTs x 2, 6BSST, 3BSST, SP3, BDA/BDP, PJ, and a few other misc. things plugged into my BIT-20, on a dedicated line, and there has never been a problem.

Thanks for the very helpful info, gents. Looks like BITs are in my future. Hope they're not naughty bits.
