He still looked good there. When you posted some pics a while ago (one of them is on the first page of this thread), Meta en I were shocked about how much older he had gotten. We didn't know he was ill though, we thought it was because he had lost his darling Marlene.

Very sad as well to hear of Dan's passing. His reviews, advice, friendliness, and sense of humor will most definitely be missed, as all of you have said. I've interacted with Dan since the start up of AA, and we had always planned to meet in person at some point. I deeply regret that never did happen.
RIP Dan, and may peace be with his family and close friends (Pete - thanks for sharing your heartfelt thoughts and the great pictures).

The things Dan loved in life were his friends, his family, and most of all, he loved his dear Marlene.
He also loved his home, with its very secluded wilderness setting, and of course his music and audio systems. The night before he passed, when he was bracing me for what was likely to follow the next day, he said "...and if I pass away, I'll just catch up with Marlene..." As I look at this photo, taken during my visit in the spring of last year, I like to think of Dan walking down that road through the forest, moving beyond his fabulous sound system to catch up with his love Marlene just a little farther down that road.  The wilderness setting printed on the acoustic panel Dan kept on his TV when not in use, is not unlike the setting of Dan's home in North Florida. He loved the peace and solitude of the life he shared with Marlene there.
