I already have the amp. My plan was to buy a small 2 channel amp (rotel 1552) for the surrounds and then use those old 200w surround channels to bi amp the front 802’s. Should have mentioned that. Last edited by prk504; 12-20-2020 at 09:15 PM. |

...my tuppence worth, it will work and get you by if you’re holding out, or saving up for something better...but if going in for the long haul, just won’t be getting the best out of them. After all that money on the Speakers, I couldn’t say I (personally) would be happy; there are many ROTEL lovers however, I’m not a fan of lean neutral and bright sonics though

Well the 802’s came and I hooked them up with 2x200 to each speaker. They sound great. My room has poor acoustics and there’s not much I can do about it with kid stuff in place. Also I’m limited to placing them within 6” off the tv wall. I’m wondering would more wattage make a tremendous difference? I did run them with only 200watts, and the 400 was a big difference. |

If you ever get the chance I do believe an even more powerful amp such as the Rotel RB-1590 or Michi S5 would pull even more great sound from your 802 D3s. But I wouldn’t worry about it much for now; Just sit back and enjoy the wonderful music you have coming from your system. Cheers, Scott

Assessing value in upgrading from 804 d3 to 802 d3. What differences are there, is change in SQ significant or not much change?. Maybe someone has compared these speakers.

Yes, I did have extensive listening sessions to both at my dealer, and to my ears, the SQ difference is significant (clarity, headroom, bass). Driving the 802s with good amplifiers is a must. I am very happy with MC611s and 802D3s. I would recommend you listen to both and make a decision. Happy listening

Just made this upgrade. The 802 sounds like a much bigger speaker with a much bigger soundstage. Not in the same league. 803 is also a much bigger sound. Side by side you can hear the smaller size of the 804 cabinet. |
