Listening to and watching the Queen Elisabeth Competition for Piano.
This week is the final.
12 competitors, 2 per night.
Each with a solo work, a newly composed work, and a concerto with orchestra.

Here they are:

Zhang Zuo is playing now, Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto 1, and she is utterly convincing!

Carlos, I haven't heard it yet.
The Penguin Guide praises it quite highly.

It may be just me, but I don't care for the Takacs Quartet CDs that I have heard. I prefer the Vegh Quartet version from the 70's which is currently hard to find.

+1
The Beethoven quartets by Quatuor Vegh are great.
As for their rarity, I have never seen a set other than the one I own. A quick internet search shows that a set sold for $200+ last year.

^^ Now I wish I had kept my Vegh Quartet Beethoven CDs! Anyway, today I enjoyed Sergei Edelmann's Chopin recital. He's a much more forceful player than Rubenstein, an approach that might not appeal to everyone. The sound is superb, even if it's a stereo SACD.

Wrapping up the long weekend and as I get ready for work tomorrow, I'm listening to:

Bach: Sonatas for Viola da gamba und Cembalo performed by Ton Koopman and Jordi Savall

For late night relaxation, I love the sound of the harpsichord. The viola de gamba contribution makes it that much more interesting. The sound of this CD is not top shelf, but it's good enough.

Dean - just looking at the picture, you have a lot of great music on vinyl. I definitely have to travel to St Louis to pay you a visit and hear some of your LPs.

Default A Really Good Choral Music LP

Listening to . . . KÖR - A Proprius LP, recorded in 1976

MIKAELI KAMMARKÖR SJUNGER SAKRALT (Michaelmas Chamber Choir Sings Sacred)

Works by Verdi, Hovland, Geoffray, Purcell, von Koch, Holmboe and Hambraeus

Directed by ANDERS EBY
Gunnar Julin, orgel
Hans Lundgren, recitation

A Swedish Choir/Choral recording by the same director that conducted and directed, possibly the best choral recording ever - CANTATE DOMINUS, also a Proprius Recording.

This recording is excellent, an excellent choir, an excellent director, a really great organ and is very pleasing to listen to.

It's an ever growing collection. I still add vinyl to my collection at a faster pace than digital.

I also have multiple subscriptions for vinyl reissues:
1. Analogue Productions Verve 45 RPM
2. Analogue Productions Prestige Mono 33 RPM
3. Analogue Productions Prestige Stereo 33 RPM
4. Analogue Productions RCA Living Stereo 33 RPM

Listening to a real oldie and a goodie . . . . An RCA Japan Direct Master Series LP

Direct to Disc and Limited Edition. Recorded Live in the Iruma City Auditorium, Saitama Prefecture Japan in April 1978

Orchestrations Astromantic

Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra - Tadaaki Otaki, Conductor

A very nice recording of a few show-stoppers - and the direct to disc recording is excellent.
