Strauss, R: Salome
Part of latest shipment...
Strauss, R: Salome Birgit Nilsson (Salome), Eberhard Wächter (Jokanaan), Gerhard Stolze (Herod), Grace Hoffman (Herodias) Wiener Philharmoniker, Sir Georg Solti I really like this short opera. The libretto is intense and the music reflects the dramatic interaction between these doomed characters. The Solti / Nilsson performance has long been recognized as outstanding and as such this is one of the discs selected by Gramophone as one of its greatest 100 recordings of all time. This set is on a newly remastered Blu-ray (24-bit 96kHz). The result showcases the outstanding playing by the VPO and the sound of the fabled orchestra is magnificent in high-resolution. Can't go wrong with this one. This is a rare disc selected for both of these elite lists: Gramophone's 100 Greatest Recordings The Absolute Sound's Top 40 Best Sounding Recordings Last edited by cma29; 11-10-2017 at 08:06 PM. |
