Accuphase E408 for Memento
Hello dear people,
I am enjoying a set of Sonus faber Guarneri Memento for some time now. My current amp is a Cayin 80 watt tube amp (KT88). I am thinking about trying an Accuphase E408 I can buy at a good price. Any experiences with this or a similar combination? I'm hoping 180 watts of high quality power will do the Memento's some good. Thanks for your thoughts! Simaudio 600i or 700i would be very nice or the Marantz PM11s3 would be awesome too.
Not sure how the Accuphase integrated pair with Sonus Faber.

tompj.......I owned and enjoyed the SF Guarneri Memento speakers. They are true magicians at the disappearing act in your room. I powered mine with a single MC275, a pair of MC275's in mono, and I powered them with an MC452. What I discovered is the GM's love power. Certainly they don't need 450 watts per channel, but when the MC452 drove the Memento's they sounded fabulous.
I am thinking the Accuphase E408 with 260 watts per channel into the GM's 4 ohm load will be impressive. The additional power will be welcomed and I believe you will notice a nice improvement in dynamics, bass performance, and overall clarity. Whether you go with the Accuphase under consideration or something else, my experience showed me that more power is a good thing for the SF Guarneri Memento's.

The 408 is a great integrated amp, however it doesn't have the AAVA volume control. I would go for an amp with AAVA which provides better sound stage.

I had the E470 and in my opinion it did not sound well with sonus faber I had it for three weeks biggest mistake I made.
The top end drove me crazy if you listen for long periods especially. I sure they are great amps but I felt with sonus faber no. If you own sonus faber they have an easy going sound so the accuphase seems to change that too much in my opinion. I ended up going with a pass labs Xa30.8 and loving it. |

Thanks for your replies everyone!
I decided not to go forward with this and stay with my tube amp for now. |

I don't know why, but Accuphase is very sensitive to cables. Using the wrong cables will make the sound sub par.
When I demoed the E600 Class A amp with Devore speakers, it sounded just alright with standard cables. However, after changing cables, it sounded as good as the Shindo setup I used to have. |

I have Franco serblin Ktemas and used to run them with the 600i. Of course these are power hungry floor standing speakers. The 600i did not have enough power, but I have no doubt they would run a SF monitors. I ended up moving to Simaudio separates with the Ktemas. Now I had enough power, but it was not until I went with a full Accuphase setup that made the Ktemas sing. In short you cannot go wrong with Accuphase and specially if you go with class A.
