A70 will drive anything out there. Agree with your assessment.

I have an humble and absolutely not polemic question.
If the A-70 can drive almost every speaker in every room with ease, and with more refinement than AB, then why Accuphase bothers to produce the P-6100? The same with the recent E-470 or last year P-4200. Why bother, with more refined Class A amps that have no driving problems and that I think also have more appeal on the market ("Class A = magic")? Yes but the differences are not so pronounced and not intrinsically tied to "Class A" but I think more on market positioning.
At will, Accuphase could produce an AB amp and position it at a price higher than A-70, just as A-36 costs less than P-4200. Market and positioning choices, not terribly technology-related I think. So it seems to me that Accuphase perceives there is still a need for "high wattage" AB amplifiers. If not, at least in the power amplifier segment (not the lower end integrated), there would be only Class A products (that by the way also right now cover a quite large price range). DSCN0810.jpg IMG_0173.jpg Dave, given your situation, I'd also likely get the A70. For normal to moderately loud listening, meters on my amps rarely pass 10w! When it averagely start hitting 50w, it's pretty loud, so I guess you'll be good. At window rattling levels, meters do pegged 280-300w, still composed without hint of strain. And my amps are merely rated @100w/8ohm--indicating Accuphase's massive headroom/conservative rating. My speakers are 89db/8ohm (5ohm min.), room ar. 15'x36'. |

I'm actually enjoying the ref5 and ref75. A bit different from the a70 but very much enjoyable. I'll probably in the end buy the Ref 75 so have different flavors from the A70. I ordered a ref5se and plan to pair with the a70. I heard this combo and its also very very good. Dilemma now is between a ref 150 or a ref 75. Every time I'm set my mind to buy the REF75 the temptation to consider the Ref 150 also sets in. Choices. |

For me, if planning to keep the amp for long I'd get Ref150 (more versatile), but in your case, if happy with current sound (enough drive), moreover as 2nd amp to alternate with your A70, I'd just keep the Ref75 - great sound and less tubes to care for. |
