Yep, this is the one I got although inside it is still a bit different. If Allegro was first introduced in 1985 I wonder when it was discontinued? Has anyone tried to communicate with Shindo-san? Will he respond to questions about his gear?

If it not the limited edition, then it is probably one of the later models of original Allegro that Shindo-san used when building his current limited edition.

Oh...one more thing...mine also has CD input which was not an option in the original model as the original only had Tuner, Aux and Phono.
Hi , like I mentioned the current model shares the same chassis - down to the knobs. Your model, however, is at least 20 years old, based upon the internal photos you posted...

The model produced after yours was a dual chassis model, which was in production for many many years..

It's a fine preamp, enjoy it!

Thanks Matt, could you also explain the following: My Allegro is missing Left/Right signs on the back panel. After installation and testing it appeared that Right (Red) input/output is on the top and Left (Black) is on the bottom. This is different from most equipment (with the exception of JBL L-166, which I also have, where Right is Black and Left is Red). In fact I have not seen the top row being Right on any amplifiers (including vintage Japanse).

is it standard for Shindo?

The top row has traditionally been used as the right channel and the bottom as the left channel. This is correct, yep.

Default Allegro tube

HI all

Recently acquired the great allegro 604s from my friend.

However, it seems that the unit I acquired no longer uses the original tube.

I do have a question regarding type of tubes used, can anyone verify if these are the correct type of tubes used?

The first stage (next to input trans) uses 12ax7, the 2nd stage uses 6072.

What about the rectifier tube? What was original used? Mine comes with Osram U709. (EZ81)

Thanks alot

Eric

Dear friend,
I also have a Alligro 604s (one posted by Reyle) and having a problem with OT which is Triad A66J. I have changed them twice but progressively they got damaged. It generally starts with low noise (pop-up type), and gradually increase while music still in play. I'm now almost certain that it is not a problem of OT but somewhere else. I would appreciate your advice on where to start the diagnosis. Kind regards, Khurshid
