That's a lot of turntable for $6K.

Of course, you can double that price and be enjoying the gorgeous Thorens TD550 with the Ortofon 12" dynamic arm, or the SME309 arm for $12.3K

The prices of these tt without a cartridge make me want to just stay with my MCD500

Don't be intimidated with someone willing to spend your money -- get something you want David and ignore the pretty pictures. Set some thresholds.

Have you looked at Rega (P7 or P9). Depending on the cartridge expenditure, very nice tables with great reviews.

Just throwing that out there. There are many, many tables in the under $5K bracket w/tonearm for the prosumer. Again, buy the best cartridge you can muster.

It seems that most TT purchases are based on eye appeal and reputation as the internet has led to less and less Hi Fi stores to visit and even fewer who have any TT to listen to. I will say that Serge's TT sounded very good and I am considering taking his off his hands so he can upgrade to the SME or spiral groove that he wants

I was just going to amend my post to also recommend either doing a transaction with Serge or buy a new Clearaudio Performance/Satisfy arm as another to consider for under $5k (new). I recall the two of you previously on the verge of sealing a deal or initiating one. Add a similiar cartridge as the Dynavector or CA Sympony or Concerto and case closed.

I do hesistate recommending a stand alone MC phono amp unless you spend a couple $K's. I've had no luck with those in the $1300 and below bracket (prior to ownership of the C2300 and C500C/C500T).

A nice used C2300 is an option though (w/C220 sale).

David.......I know you are not itimidated by me, or anyone else for that matter. I am just tossing out the turntables I am most interested in. Everyone knows you don't listen to me anyway, at least not the first hundred times or so.
