Tonearm cable length

Does anyone use tonearm cables that are over the generally recommended 1 meter length? If I move things around like I'd like to, I think I'd have to have 1.5 meters at a minimum.

This'll be for a LOMC cartridge so capacitance shouldn't be an issue.

Will there be any adverse effects from that length?

1adam12.......I use the Furutech AG-12 phono cable which is 1.2 meters in length. I think going to a 1.5 meter length will be a non-issue for a moving coil cartridge. At one point with a moving magnet cartridge I used 2 meter interconnects and had no problem with that length but the output voltage was higher with the MM cartridge. I believe you will be fine with a 1.5 meter cable.

I wonder how long Ivan's cables are in the Cape?

I have used 3 meters no issues to date.

Why don't you substitute a cable of the length you think you will need now and give it a listen? That way you will be sure one way or the other before making any changes.

Dave.......The tonearm cable from Ivan's ClearAudio Innovation Wood turntable in the Cape two channel room to the Aesthetix Rhea Signature phono preamplifier in the rack below the turntable is the standard 1.2 meter length. The line level balance Wireworld cables from the Aesthetix Rhea Signature phono preamp output to the McIntosh C1000C/T preamp line level input are 15 meters if my memory serves me right. Hopefully Ivan will chime in and correct me if I am wrong.

My longest tonearm cables on all my tables is 1.2M

However, the ClearAudio Innovation in my 2-Channel Mac/Strad room uses a 15.0M run of Platinum Eclipse IC's. They go from my Aesthetix Rhea Signature in the back of the room to my C1000 in the front of the room.

Your cable capacitance needs to be around 100 picofarads maximum. For most good quality shielded cables, this will be around 1.2 meters.

My understanding is that moving coil cartridges are immune to changes in capacitance. Am I wrong on that?
