I like the sounds of that. So would that be the amplification you would go for, i.e. the 2KW's? Seems a logical choice. If you were to get them it would be really interesting to read about your impressions of how they compare to your Aida's. It wouldn't be a one to one seeing as they would probably be in different rooms driven by different electronics but still it would be cool to see a comparison of their strengths and weaknesses. I know with these speakers weakness is a poor choice of words

If it were to happen, they would not be driven by Mac amps.

You know, they probably sound better than anything on earth, but...... Every time I look at them I can't shake the feeling of staring at a couple of robots about to shoot me with death rays.

You know your OLD when new stuff freaks you out.....

You know, some day I want to write the main man behind the Grande Utopia, Gérard Chrétien and ask him something. On the Focal website (well the section for the Grande Utopia) there is a download-able PDF file detailing the development of the new Grande....when they get to the portion about the case, they mention that some of the team objected to the rosewood veneer the demo cabinet had....I guess that the vertical veins in the veneer looked askew due to the new segmented look.

I will always wonder if they (the team) simply rejected a wood veneer out of hand or if they actively pursued a different wood veneer after rejecting a rosewood veneer....while the gold band looks cool, I will still always wonder what a pair of these beauties would look like in wood....

However, the available finishes would NOT stop me from owning a pair of Grande Utopia EM's!!!!

Cheers,

If you like, you CAN get a custom finish done on the grande utopia at a fee, and it won't come cheap. Check with your dealer. You can send them a sample of the desired veneer, and they will come back to you with a sample confirmation.

Are you serious??? Really?? If so, this is great news!!! I just found it strange in the development story that such short shrift was given to a wood veneer...German audio company Tidal has some stunning veneers on their speakers so it might be worth getting their veneer "swatch" to see what might be available....

One thing I saw on the mock up image with the Rosewood veneer was that the vertical veining of the wood was a bit strange due to the new segmented speaker design....a wood veneer with no vertical or horizontal vein (maybe a Burled wood veneer) would be best....

Cheers,

Hey enit....I see you have a four pack of the Focal EM subs!! Just curious, do they all have the separate power supply for a total of four of them?? I downloaded the Owner's Manual for the subs and they show the binding posts to connect the sub to the amplifier, but how do you connect four subs?? There is also a DC insert for the cable from the power supply to the sub itself....but no apparent means to "daisy chain" the subs...

MANY thanks,
