It looks like it fell off of an intergalactic 18-wheeler transporting columns to the monolith store. It just happened to be pulled into earth’s gravitational pull and when it hit, it lodged itself - perfectly plumb btw - into the rocky Utah landscape. Such an easy explanation.

The things I am having a hard time rationalizing is why it sounds hollow when tapped on by the crew that investigated it and published a video and why it uses riveted construction.
