The Altaira Component Continuity Test Worksheet on the Shunyata website is very clear and specific. The first question is if the component has a ground lug, in which case use that. If the component does not have a ground lug, proceed to the 2nd question, which is quite clear and unequivocal:

Question: Does this component have a ground pin in the IEC inlet?

RESULT NO:
If a manufacturer chose to use an AC inlet that has NO ground pin, that means that they DO NOT want the component grounded to the AC earth ground system.
ACTION:
DO NOT ground this specific component.

I'm not sure where all the confusion is coming from. A component without a ground pin in the IEC inlet is specifically designed to insulate all circuitry from the cabinet.

After consultation with Ivan and Ayre regarding the possibility of connecting the Altaira to my QX-5 DAC, I was assured it was safe to do so. "Try it and see" was the basic message. I connected an Alpha GC to a chassis screw and the results were immediately apparent. A further improvement in clarity, focus, and imaging was realized. Of course, now I need another cable (Ivan, you will soon have a PM) but the experiment worked in this case. Different components may not but, if the manufacturer believes it is harmless to try, give it a shot. You might be pleasantly surprised. I certainly was. My router will be next and I'm hoping for similar results. The Altaira is incredible so far and my Signal Hub has not yet arrived. In a few more weeks, it should be even more unbelievable. Big thanks to Ivan for his advice and guidance.
Ben… Excellent.

And here's what Stephen said back in September:

It's as simple as that.

Link to the Component Continuity Test Worksheet document on the Shunyata website is here: shorturl.at/bdFJ1

As Kenny has said, the Altaira system documentation that was put together was comprehensive. Rather than making "assumptions," your best practice is to: 1) work with a trained and certified dealer and 2) read all the Altaira system documentation online. It's all there in Kenny's link(s).

Well, another school of thought says to just ground everything.

Here is a perfect example of a no ground IEC component;

.

Yet, it is completely safe to connect to Altaira, and the audible gains are undeniable.

It has a ground lug - the first question on the Shunyata list, if it has a ground lug, use it.

Could not agree more. Simply connecting my ER to Altaira brought SIGNIFICANT improvments to my system. Many thanks to John Swenson for installing a ground terminal.

Hi Pete.
This is a rabbit hole you dont want to go down. When ready, just close your eyes and jump....like I did
Ivan said my Altaira has arrived and been shipped to me soon.
Once installed, i will be posting my findings. That said, like others AA members who have come before me, I suspect my report will extolling the virtues.
