Could not agree more on your Japan vs 'elsewhere' thinking.

I know Japanese quality control is very high and the Malaysian ones have not yet been reviewed so I was adamant that I get a Japanese made SL1200G. I’m just glad I found one because the 120 volt US version is now super hard to find. The G model looks to be quite impressive so hopefully I didn’t spend a bunch of money for nothing.

Default Technics SL1200 mk2

Unfortunately, this purchase set me back for a while so an upgrade to Wireworld cables from Masterlu is going to have to wait.

Once your bank account has recovered you will find WW cables well worth the investment. Every time I put in a new WW IC or speaker cable I was always very pleased with the upgrade. Am all WW Pt, Au & Ag (spkr) and is a big part of my systems SQ.

I finally received my new Technics 1200G turntable (made in Japan version) and fitted it with a cartridge thanks to my friends at Pearl Audio here in Portland. This turntable sounds great and I am very happy with it. Not that the 1200 Mk2 had any issues, the 1200G just has a little more, I don't know, finesse? So far, I'm very happy with the change, I just wish that I could have afforded to keep the old SL1200 Mk2 for a second system but finances didn't allow for it. Oh well, it went to a good home and the buyer was very happy and I know he will enjoy it which also makes me happy as he was a young audiophile. It's always nice to see the younger generation getting into audio and be as passionate as I was at that age.

Something else to mention, it's so much fun to update my signature because that means that I upgraded my system!

We and your friends at Pearl Audio cannot believe that you have not posted any pic's of your new SL-1200G.

Congratulations on the new 1200G! Looks to be a very nice TT.

The only other thing I would suggest is to mount the very best cart that you can afford on it.

I'll try and get a pic posted within the next week.

I already have a slightly used Ortofon Bronze MM cartridge so I figured I would use that for a while and then when it's time to replace it, I'll get something better. The nice thing is that my C22 IV has a great phono section which allows me to use either an MM or an MC cartridge so I have a lot of options.
