Ivan said my Altaira has arrived and been shipped to me soon.
Once installed, i will be posting my findings. That said, like others AA members who have come before me, I suspect my report will extolling the virtues.
Oh, you'll find out!

I think the main questioning that Pete is doing is on the preamp. If the C40 doesn't have
the ground pin from EIC connector, it is most likely to be excluded from being used with
the Altaira system and that is a pretty important component in the audio chain.

So I guess Pete can measure the resistance between the chassis and the signal
grounds. If the resistance is high, what would be the impact of having to exclude
the preamp from the ground system?

There is no downside to the preamp not being amenable to a ground connection. There will be noticeable benefits of having the sources grounded no matter what.

Best advice:

Follow Shunyata's tested, documented instructions, and ignore any and all advice that does not follow the manufacturer's instructions.

That was a big part of my question. The C40 does not have a 3-wire power connection. It does, however, have a chassis ground lug, intended for use with a turntable. There seems a consensus that this being the case, it does not have to be excluded? Your comment about it being a pretty important component in the chain. I'd hate to see it excluded. (The same is true with my MP100 phono preamp. Two-wire power cord, but has a chassis ground lug).

Equally important are my three MC501 amplifiers. They do have a grounded IEC connection. But what do we make of Jason's comments on the MC501's?

Don’t assume just because your 501 have a 3 prong power inlet that the ground tab is actually utilized/connected internally.

I own MC611 amps and the ground pin is a road to nowhere, the connection is left open inside the chassis.

I emailed Chuck Hinton and he confirmed Mc leaves the ground tab open whenever UL certification allows it to be so without risk of electrocution in order to avoid ground noise/loop in the first place.

He didn’t say but I assume it has something to do with the autoformers and I think this is limited to quad balanced Mc amplifiers which your 501s are.

I will be interested in what you find when test your 501s for continuity.

I am confused exactly what this means for connecting Altaira to Mcintosh quad balanced amps. ….. meaning may be safe to do so but if the ground tab is left open by design, then connecting it to Altaira may not have any chance to improve SQ and would be wasting dollars for that ground wire connection.

REL has long known about needing specific connection to Mc quad balanced amps. One thing I know for sure, when I connect the REL Speakon black/neg post lead to a chassis screw (as REL states to do), there is zero hum. If that lead is removed and the positive lead is connected to amp speaker terminal, the REL will hum loud and proud so there is some kind of ground via the chassis.
In checking the MC501's schematic, it shows the IEC ground connection going to a "signal ground" connection. (Triangle symbol).

I guess the only thing I can do is get out the meter and start checking things...
