Default NAS and importance of backup

The SSD cache on my Synology 920+ NAS has been fickle since I installed the pair of SSDs. Every few months I would get an error saying it crashed when in fact it was only a tentative electrical connection. A quick alcohol wipe, reinsertion, reformat and reinitialization fixes the reoccurring nuance. Somehow today however, during the reinitialization, I deleted the RAID 1 volume on the NAS’s 2 HDDs and lost ALL DATA including all 38,500 songs!

Needless to say I initially freaked out a little bit, but knew I practiced good data backup techniques. I’m currently restoring all the files to the NAS from backup.

Just a reminder to everyone, use proper backup techniques! 3/2/1 is not just a good idea, it’s imperative! I don’t recall the specific thread, but it was definitely an AA discussion that reminded me of the importance and got me off my ass to do it properly.

You never think you’re going to need a back up until you need a back.
