Be sure to look at the Shunyata DTCD article on their web site, too.

Regaridng the cord, no, you just need a cord that has a 20 amp IEC female plug on the end to go into the 20 amp male IEC on the back of the Hydra. Ths is a different design than the 15 amp IEC plug. The Python you bought should be excellent for this purpose.

Thanks, I didn't think it would matter but wasn't 100% sure the Hydra wasn't somehow putting a higher demand on the circut hence the 20 amp IEC. As for the units condition the pictures show the unit to be very clean looking

Ah. Speaking to the choir.

Nice read. They make a good argument, although I do not pretend to know everything they discuss.

I know that I need some attention to cabling and even to my wall socket. This is an almost 100 year old house with updated wiring, but even though it has been updated, I'm not too sure it was done with any care (when I've plugged a surge protector into a three pronged outlet for my computer systems, it promptly told me I had no ground....). All my power chords are standard. My speaker cabling is, uh, of an unknown type with twist on Monster banana connectors I got so I could hook things up quickly. Etc....

I figure with some upgrading in this area, lossless files, the HRT, and so on, I should experience a large improvement in what I have, and what I have is sounding pretty good.

Thanks....

I think that's probably a fair statement, and many folks might not fully understand where Caelin Gabriel of Shunyata is going with his designs; after all, his background in that area. Working on systems to maximize signal-to-noise in signals intelligence work for uh, um...the NSA. The guy is frickin' brilliant.

Gee, funny thing, that's what Shunyata products do!

Quite the coincidence!

I wrote to him about the use of Design of Experiments to maximize DTCD functional responses in power cord design with different design factors as the adjustment parameters, but he's opted not to use that approach for the time being, acc. to his product manager, Richard. I need to stay on him about that, though, as I think it could be of real use to him in future product design.

Don,
How is the Hydra 8 and Python working out for you? I'm curious to hear what you think of it....

I think the biggest area of improvement is in the bass control and authority and notes are more distinct. I am pretty pleased overall

Yes, I noticed that and the noise level was lower...a quieter system overall.

This was coming from the Hydra 4, which does not have the magic Zr-Ca beads.
