Thanks Tom.

Yeah, that's about all that I've come up with too. I've run balanced outputs from my PS Audio Direct Stream DAC to the C1100 and unbalanced to the MX160 - that's the most critical source so that works. Unfortunately by phono pre-amp and Reel-to-Reel player only have one output so not an option - and I don't want to sacrifice the upper frequencies by running a splitter.

Too bad - this isn't a "gotta have" for me but seems like it could be do-able with the right internal switching. Oh well, love everything else about the duo!

I wouldn’t be too concerned about using high quality ‘Y’ connectors but you’d definitely have to listen to make sure there is no degradation in the sound. Good luck!

How is the C1100 with D150 as dac combo compare to just a D1100 as preamp? Will the D150 choke the C1100?

Considering some isolation footers for the C1100. Do I need to isolate both the Controller and Tube Pre? I don't have them stacked. My initial thought was just the Tube preamp.

Thank you !

The OCD part of me would put them on both so they match.

I have my units stacked but each on 4 Stillpoint Minis. No clue if it helps.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I just ordered the C1100 but I wanted to ask best advice on how to play SACD content... should I just buy a MCD600? or another SACD player from a different company? Seems another option is to get the D1100 and use it with my MCT500 which I'm thinking of just trading in for a MCD600...

thoughts?

Well first of all absolute congrats on your purchase! From everything I hear the C1100 is a great preamp. First, I would stay within the McIntosh brand. Mac has a sound signature that you obviously like. I like it to. It takes months of listening to really determine how a new piece of gear sounds.

The classical way to go would be to buy a D1100. It's what I own and the hub of my system. It has worked flawlessly and is dual mono and fully balanced. I don't do vinyl. I am fully balanced from input to output and use a MCD1100 for my transport and its DIN output for SACD. I have computer audio, BR, and a wonderful old laser disc player. Some of my favorite performances and movies are on laser disc. The D1100 plays them flawlessly through the optical input.

Mac really does SACD extremely well. I have a lot of wonderful SACD's. SACD is very important to me. A little known fact is the ability of an MCD1100 to output SACD using the Mac MCT cable.

As to the MCD600. I don't believe you can go wrong with it. The "fully balanced dual mono" issue is not all that important to most folks and probably has no sonic effect. So it's going to be your preference according to your taste. The sonics will be superb either way.

I would be sure to have really good cords, cables, IC's, power conditioner, and clean power coming out of the wall. This will affect the performance of you Mac gear much more than a D1100 vs. MCD600. The 600 is the newer piece.

Again, absolute congrats! Give us some pics if you are able.

Best

Charles

If you already have the MCT500 I would just add the D1100. I don't own any of this stuff but if I had to guess the DAC in the D1100 is probably as good if not better than the one in the MCD600 but is much more flexible and it integrates with the C1100 perfectly.
