Just been doing a comparison with Paul Simons Graceland, specifically my original pressing vinyl (Rega P5, TTPSU Ortofon Bronze via Zesto) vs the HD tracks 24/96 via my Naim DAC XPS2 DR. The Naim has the Valhalla IC and power cord, the Zesto has my Red Dawn and a standard power cord. The Vinyl still has that analogue flow and likability, but the digital has scale, detail and realism to burn. The LP sounds like a record. I know that the Valhallas make most of the difference between the two but I have 600 albums on digital and 100 on vinyl, so it gets my best ancillaries.

It's not really disappointing from the vinyl. I also have an unused Dynavector 17 D3 in the wings (saved $450 getting another audiophiles spare) but I need to use my Ortofon for a while first and make my inevitable newbie mistakes with that cart rather than the Dyn. Also the Dyn, like the Zesto, is really about my long term plan to get a Well Tempered turntable next year.

Just listening to the extras on the HD tracks digital. Interesting to hear how the tracks are put together. Now where is that guitar of mind. :-)

are you happy with the zesto thus far?
based on all the great reviews the unit has had, has it met your expectations?
anything you don't like about it, which you feel could be improved?

Honestly, it's not really fair to say too much. It's hamstrung but the ancillaries and to some degree by the modest Rega table. This was a long term purchase with future years in mind. That being said, almost all my music purchases recently have been vinyl. It's a strong sign I think.

After a disaster with my just delivered Paul Hynes computer/ interface power supply on Sunday night I could not bare to listen to digital at the moment. It just reminds me that 1. The Paul Hynes unit only half worked and 2. When trying to check fuses I managed to switch to the wrong voltage ( the voltage selector looks like a smaller version of the fuse cover) and fried it, all within a week of delivery. It's my all time most expensive purchasing disaster, unless I'm lucky and it can be salvaged by some good local techs.

sorry to hear about your digital woes - time to upgrade your analog ancillaries!
