One that sticks in my mind was from 1964, Terry by Twinkle. Got banned by the BBC and ITV for suicide references.
That made it even more popular. Unfortunately and sadly Twinkle didn't twinkle much on stage either. |

That's a grrrreat track with a cool groove and it's an especially interesting one hit wonder. That's because many radio stations also played the flip side ("Mighty Joe"), making Shocking Blue a rather odd double one-hit wonder. I can't think of any other example of this.

The 1963 hit "Hello Stranger" by Barbara Lewis. Yvonne Elliman did a marvelous cover of it in the 70's, which had better fidelity, but I still remember the 1963 original, with great fondness:
