Karnak the Magnificent knows all!
I stayed up until 2:00AM listening last night. Just didn't want to stop. I also was able to switch the remote and preamp to the alternate code set. As it turns out, the alternate code set matches the old C500 for at least power on/off and volume up/down, so my Harmony now works the system correctly. Kudos for the McIntosh engineers to make that backward compatibility happen. Now I have to figure out how to get the IR codes for discrete input selection. The HR 85 remote just has two buttons for cycling through the inputs, which is a non-starter for remote integration. More listening this morning, I left it on overnight to get some time on it. Still running the McIntosh tubes.

I'm back at it this morning after a couple of cups of Joe. The C1100 is an impressive tube preamplifier. It appears to be voiced similarly to the MC 2301. They play very nicely together. So far I'm getting higher resolution all around without any stridency or harshness. Tom

Congratulations Tom! I am curious if you auditioned any other pre’s specifically a Solid State? I would love a C1100 but in my old room I wondered if my system might benefit from a SS pre to add a ‘smidgeon’ more detail... But I have months of setting up my new room before I get back to those thoughts.
