Thanks again to all!

I had my doctor's appointment today in lower Manhattan, then headed uptown to the Jazz Record Center on West 26th St. Got upstairs, and left with the following:

• Dexter Gordon, Go
• Artemis (self-titled; an all-female group featuring Rene Rosnes, Melissa Aldana, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Anat Cohen, and 3 others I'm not familiar with, but TAS gave it a good review)
• Joey DeFrancesco + The People, Project Freedom
• Herbie Hancock, Maiden Voyage
• Charles Mingus, Live in '64 (DVD)

Haven't been playing much vinyl, but shame on me if I don't start back up now that I bought these LPs; I still have others I bought a few months back, like Deep Purple's In Rock which sit unopened, never mind not played.

Sounds like its time to enjoy the music and celebrate another day on this side of the sun.

The "birthday week" actually started on the 9th. On that Saturday a friend from church drove over from Jersey to visit. This was the birthday "celebration" that was moved from the 14th because her mother was coming to town for the week, arriving the following day; we were to have dinner on the 14th originally. Her mother's birthday was on the 12th.

We had a late lunch at a Turkish/Middle Eastern restaurant near me (she paid!) and then back to my apartment for "music night," where I played excerpts from various concert blu-rays; I had a list and she chose from a list I prepared for her. So we heard, in succession, Santana, Metallica, Hans Zimmer, Joe Bonamassa, and Yuja Wang. I even prepared a little program which she took with her for both keepsake and reference, as "music night" is now to become an official annual event (at least), and I won't be surprised if she wants to hear something else from the list, as there were other options she was interested in that we didn't have time to play.

I think of the period from 10/7 to 10/21 as official birthday period; anything within that time frame can be considered birthday-related. So if I want to come up with something else, I have two more days to do it. I doubt I will, as I've had too many calories and spent too much already.
