Interesting, thanks for the input guess I was wrong.
In terms of how tube specifications change sound, I know voltage drop can change the sound. Gz34 having the lowest drop, and something like a 5y3 having a lot of drop. Low drop tends to have a more solid grasp on the sound, tighter, higher drops tend to be more soft and loose. At least in my experience.

What's your take on filament current? Is going from a 2amp -> 3amp -> 3.7amp going to have any effect on the audio, or is that all due to the voltage drop characteristic?

Try a type 80 globe in your lp-3.1. Needs an adapter. Dennis had me put one in my lp-27. It takes an 80 but I had always used st bottle types, with no recognizable difference to my ears. The 80 globe on the other hand was a significant difference, for the better. I do not recall exactly what the betterment was but I have not looked back.

Hey Comzee, interesting question, I have only ever looked at the B+ voltages in relation to sound, not the filament current.
I would have to ask Dennis about that.
I've been using 5Y3's in my LP-3.1...I think I'll try a 5U4 for awhile and see if I like it with my latest setup.

The globe type 80 sounds interesting. I may have to source some.

6 months ago we sold our house in NH, and temporarily moved all our belongings into storage. Recently we purchased and moved into a new home in FL. Now that our belongings have been shipped to our new home, from storage, I was able to set my system back up. I am having a blast rolling tubes in my Inspire amp to find the combination that sounds best in it's new location. Currently running, a Sylvania 6SN7W/A metal base, Gold Lion KT77's, and a Mullard F31 5AR4/GZ34
.

Anybody try these in an Inspire amp? Thought I was getting a quad from an eBay seller who had a matched pair and 2 unmatched singles. Guess my definition of package price for all 4 tubes was different than there’s . So I received just the matched pair which are beautiful and I’m sure true NOS tube. Tempted to pick up the other 2 singles but it will not be the great deal I first thought. Generally I have liked the 6v6 and kt66 tunes the most in my IIPS PSE so I thought they might be a good fit (also a sucker ST bottle tubes).

Full disclosure, was watching a YouTube video that had a Shindo Haut Brion amp built around those tubes and started looking.

I love 6L6 tubes in both my pentode inspire amps.
To me, 6L6 represents the best resolution and control of any pentode.

I have a pair of NOS ST shaped, a bit warmer than my other 6L6's. The new production Tung-Sol 6L6GC-STR is fantastic, I also have a pair of Visseaux 6L6 that are bar-none my best pentode pair I own, startlingly good resolution/air/nuance.

The trade offs for me, 6v6 run leaner, less impact, but could be better for vocals and some genres. Kt66/kt88 and above have more slam and dynamics, but lose the extreme control and resolution 6L6 family has.

Definitely a YMMV, just my personal impressions.

If you can find some Ei KT90 tubes to try in your Pentode Inspire I highly recommend them. They have all the slam, air, subtlety, and nuance you could ever want. Amazing midrange quality.

I have rolled every tube type in mine and these are the best for my setup.

Anybody try these in an Inspire amp?

I'm using 6L6GA's in my PSE w/IIPS and like them a lot. I'm running a 5Y3G rectifier with them.
