For some balance to Rachel Podger's Vivaldi:
Vivaldi: La Stravaganza Op.4 Neville Marriner, Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields Argo Recording is not as crisp and detailed as the Podger I was listening to earlier, but still excellent balanced sound. Performance is beautiful and well paced.

Shostakovich: Symphonies Nos. 1-15 (complete)
Quote:
SACD 12: Shostakovich: Symphony No. 15 in A major, Op. 141. This is Shostakovich's last symphony. The first movement has a cheerful feeling (is this Shostakovich?). The rest is more characteristic of the composer's style. Very dramatic reading and the recording is extremely clear, transparent and dynamic. |

On the plane back from Seattle today I listened to guitarist Eliot Fisk play his transcription of Bach's 3rd Violin Sonata and John Ogdon play Busoni's Fantasia Contrapuntistica.

Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra / Thord Svedlund Weinberg: Chamber Symphonies Nos. 3 & 4 Lesser known, late works of the composer on SACD released this year. Quite enjoyable even if not special. |

It's quite accessible music for a Weinberg disc.
