Meridian System Arrived!

I am pleased to share that my Meridian system arrived safe and sound yesterday and are now fully set up and playing. It comprises of the DSP8000 speakers and the 808i.2 player. My Apple TV, routing the iTunes and Movies, ripped from both my CD collection as well as DVD's are played utilizing the 808i.2 DAC's, kinda like an el cheapo Sooloos. Sounded just fine to me and I am really wondering if I should even think about the Sooloos later!

Connected the Oppo BDP 83se NuForce Edition Universal player to the "pre-amp" of the 808i.2. This was the recommended reason for buyers as the brochure mentioned that to use only the digital output would waste the Sabre DAC's on this fine player.

The other source would be the entry level Magnum Dynalab MD90 Solid State Tuner .... where I would use it to listen to my 2 favorite stations, namely 90.5 FM where they play the oldies but goodies and 92.4 FM Classical station. Both these fine players cost me S$2k each. Not bad for the kind of performance viz the price they asked for.

First, the Meridian pieces had their software upgraded and the remote properly programmed to fit the use of the Tuner, ATV and Bluray player. Simply becoming easier to use.

How do the entire system sounded? Well, I like it .... very different from what I had before BUT definitely a system I can listen for keeps, at least for the next 3 years. My wife who had never sit down with me on my first audition of any of my new systems, for once, sit down and listen. Well, the comment was "It sounded natural too me and I hope you like it!". The only complain, if you can called the statement to be one is that she preferred the speakers to be colored and not black! I simply retorted that in the long run, she might just find black as the "in color". This retort caused a sharp feedback ... as "HOW LONG would the LONG RUN BE my friend?". Shhhh, the music is playing ......

I also managed to trade off my entire balance/left over Cardas Golden Reference Interconnects and Speaker Cables for 3 sets of the latest Cardas Clear RCA 1.5m long Interconnects! Cant tell you guys how they are different from GR cause my concentration is listening to the Meridian system as a whole! Its just one word ... Good .... No, better than Good!

Ok, thats the first impression. Photos will follow. Oh, for housekeeping, this had to be one of the nicest system ever. Less a boat load of cables to dress up!

Hey JSCC, nice review, have to say though for £40,000 I would have expected more along the lines of "blew my socks off and sent me to audio nirvana level 1000"
