Default Tweaking a system with cables

A friend who owns Sonus Faber Guarneri Memento, ARC Ref 3 / Ref 110, EAR Acute CD player, and a full loom of Nordost Frey version one cable set, decided to audition Plinius SA-102 Monoblocks (+700 watts in 4 ohms) as he felt he was not getting the best out of his speakers and we identified the Ref 110 as the possible culprit.

I was not taken with the sound initially as it sounded a bit clinical and edgy. The reviewer had a set of Kimber select 3035 speaker cables on hand and the difference was profound with the Kimber speaker cable, with all edginess gone and replaced by a wonderful natural tonal balance and much better dimensionality.

We decided to swap the interconnect from CD player to pre-amp as well with Kimber Select but this was too much of a good thing as the sound was a bit dark and slow. It turned out using Nordost Frey interconnects with Kimber select 3035 speaker cable and the Plinius SA-102 was the magic bullet.

It Just proves how important choice of cabling is.

I noticed a marked improvement when I changed out my cabling.
