qqOTE=Masterlu;139460]Bill, that reminds me of...
[/QUOTE] I have that little reel to reel! It was a christmas present when I was about 9 years old or so. It is made by Concord. It was called a Sound Camera! Mine does not work right. A bully tossed it out of a tree house and it has been a little wobly since. I still hold a grudge about that.... don't mess with my toys! |

Can anyone direct me to a site where I can get good quality 7" R2R tapes? I just purchased a NOS NIB RT-707 from Dallas Vintage Audio. I will be getting 5 sealed Maxell UD tapes with the purchase but I don't think that will last long.

You can get new RMGI tape at Full Compass or at US Recording.
For NOS I think you just have to watch and jump when you see it. I have found AudioProz to have an interesting selection of products, although they were very slow to ship and left out the one thing I was most interested in for the first order I made with them. What other items (maintienance, etc.) do you suggest I keep on hand for R2R usage? Head cleaner, PR cleaner, demag wand, splicing block, splicing tape, leader tape, etc.? Since I am a R2R novice any suggestions apreciated.

A relative has a Nakamichi Dragon bought in Hong Kong around 1981. I remember as a young fella playing around with it. It was beautiful to look at with its tiled buttons. He's had it boxed up for years. Probably only about 1,000 hours use. I've heard that the reverse play is problematic with this model & that the Nakamichi CR7A is the vintage model to look for. If I ever managed to pick it off him, would it be worth the effort?

I would have to say yes to the above question. Even if you have to send it off for respecing/repairing it would be worth the $$$ spent.

My RT-707 just purchased. I was told NOS NIB - seems that way. Bought from a vintage audio store in Dallas.
