JBL L250/250ti

Those were ahead of their time. I love the cabinets. Couldn't you hire a "finish" carpenter to do a professional job on the cabinets? My dad was a carpenter who built fine bars and furniture for high end restaurants and clubs. I'm sure there are some in your area. It would be worth the money to see the cabinets like new. Those are what I call "keepers".

BTW, I have cleaned the cabinets and polished the crossover straps and screws on the rear of the speakers since these pix were taken.

Although you could hire a professional cabinet craftsman to do the job, as scarpi suggests, there are commercially available products that you can get pretty decent results with. The wood "crayons" that come in different colors can work pretty well, but you need to use a smooth, flat instrument, with no sharp corners, to flatten out the material into a uniform surface. Some grain blending is helpful too, this can be achieved with the crayon putty itself, though when I do these repairs I sometimes use some of my oil paints and glaze treatments that I use in my oil paintings to do the grain blending and to achieve a uniform sheen to match the oil finish. However, a pretty decent job can be achieved with the product I mentioned. These products are made by Minwax and are available at Home Depot.

From what I can tell from your photos, these are small chips, and not very many of them. I think you can restore these yourself without too much trouble.

Thanks Pete, I'll definitely check the crayons out at the Depot. I probably need to put better feet on them as well since the tiny "sliders" that JBL used appear way too small-- they probably contributed to the veneer chip problem.

We have had the 250Ti's for a very long time at the house. Ours are the teak models and they are still in tip top condition. They have been moved into a spare room for now since we all love the looks and sounds from our JBL K2 S5800's. The 250Ti's sound better than the McIntosh 360's IMHO. I ran them side by side and the much older JBL's did everything better than the McIntosh speakers that I sold to Two Dot and he latter sold them to Master Lu. We have the complete Ti series, 250 Ti, 240Ti, 120Ti, and the 18Ti, at our place as I like to collect a series of speakers if I can afford it. Right now I'm looking for a buyer for the 240Ti's as I just don't have the room any more to keep all of them.

I still crave more and more JBL's, even though I don't have the room (or the money) for them either. I don't care how old they are, it matters not. They will still outperform many, many offerings on the market today (many of which are overpriced IMO).

You hit the nail on the head. If I had a pair of JBL 250Ti's I might rearrange my office, or build another room.
