Fun! I love the red accents in the dark. Goes well with the glow of the heaters. I had an amp made by another builder and he put a white LED power light for some reason. It’s blinding in the dark! Would love to see a picture of the finished preamp in the dark.

Thanks Isaacc7, the Amber LED's, the 0C2's, and the 6GK6's plus the 5670W's (or 396A's) should be a real light show.
I prefer listening in the dark so I run the LED's pretty dim.
I'm going to post detailed pics of each stage of the build of the preamp and the mono's so you guy's can see what goes into making them.
There's a 396A preamp on my bench now, I'll post pics of the build this week.

These are actually an intermediate pair of the 3.1s, which will eventually wind up as my personal pair. The veneer bubbled during application, requiring a technology change in the gluing method.

The first production pair is still on course to be available in October...

Got started this morning, should be finishing up tomorrow.
I forgot that it's supposed to have a 4 pin rectifier so I switched sockets, (my bad).

I've seen a lot of amplifiers from the inside in the thread.
Is there a technical reason for the different mass laying ? cable vs wire connections. is this just a different approach, preference of the builder for one or the other variant, time savings in construction, part price, measured values or does it have something to do with the sound of the amplifier.

Finished up this morning.
Next is the inspection and function test.
I check all the connections for good solder flow and correct wiring.
The function test measures filament and B+ voltages, then I put the unit in my system and check the volume and channels for proper function.
My inspection found one missing wire and one wiring error.
See if you can find the errors, they're not in the last picture because I fixed them before I took the picture.
The unit is playing in my system now.
Tomorrow it's off to the shop for final inspection by Dennis and testing on the equipment then burn in.
Next up is a Black PH-1 phono preamp.
I should get that chassis back from the powder coater next week.
Until then I'm building two more headphone amps.
