Default A Bevy of Wilson Pedestals

I have extensive pics posted under the Mac Forum: Show Us Your System.

I had been wanting to place some kind of vibration mitigation under my new MC3500's. Recently Wilson came out with their Heavy Pedestal (reds) rated at 75 lbs./pedestal. I checked with my Mac friend and my Wilson friend, both said the new Pedestals would be perfect under the rails of the 3500's. These babies are expensive at $775/pedestal. I also added 3 Standards rated at 25 lbs. under my D1100, previously I had 6 Lights rated at 9 lbs. under it. I sent 3 Lights back to Wilson and will soon place 3 Lights under my new Wilson ActivXO crossover after I have heard the new Pedestals under my 3500's. I now have Wilson Acoustic Diodes under my XVX, a custom made 150 plus pound plinth made by Wilson consisting of X-material and supported by modified Acoustic Diodes under my Thor, and Wilson Pedestals under all my main gear for 2-channel listening. My MVP881 BR player has been returned to Mac. The drawer is stuck. The TV is a new Sony. It was quite a feat to get the Marantz LD player connected to the new Sony but we obviously accomplished it. My dealer is a wizard. The sonics: I don't have words to describe them. You folks that think Mac has a warm laid back sound lacking in resolution need to listen to my system. The tremendous speed and clarity are electric without a trace of hardness. You have to resist turning it up to ridiculous sound levels, because the sound doesn't change. The XVX simply has no upper limit and my 3500's do. The volume on the D1100 is set at 70%. You couldn't remotely carry on a conversation but it doesn't sound loud, even though the system is at 100 plus dB. The XVX is just loafing. The bass impact is incredible but the soft bass decay/notes must be heard to be appreciated. I've never heard anything like it.

Best

Charles

Thanks everybody. I have become a believer in vibration mitigation since I moved my Thor off the floor. It made a surprising difference. I can say that Wilson Pedestals make anything you place them under sound better. Folks thought that I was nuts when I said that my XVX was a cost effective investment. But it surely was and is. I will never purchase another speaker. Recently, I seriously considered buying a MCD12000/C12000, but have definitely decided against it because the MCD12000 doesn't have enough optical inputs for my MR87 tuner, MVP851 DVD player, and Marantz LD player. I would have to use an optical splitter or use the analog output of the tuner. In addition, I would have to purchase two pairs (about 15K) of extremely expensive balanced Firebird AQ IC's to run from the MCD12000 to the C12000 in order to alternate from tube to solid state. I have really been tempted to do this and may still do this but I will never buy another speaker. I estimate to change to the new Mac reference gear would be 40K plus, for only a small gain in sonics. But this is the high end game and I play it and it can get very expensive. Although my XVX was very expensive, I can say with certainty that it is my last speaker as are my 3500's as far as amps are concerned. But for the time being, I love listening to my new Pedestals. The Heavies (reds) really work well to eliminate all vibration, resulting in a significant improvement in sound on the order of the improvement I would get going from a MCT500/D1100 to a C12000/MCD12000.

Charles

p.s. I have very expensive AQ optical cables connecting my MR87 tuner, 851 DVD player, and Marantz LD player to my D1100. AQ doesn't even make them any more, I guess because of low demand. These units are very important to me. The great thing about a D1100 is that the pre in it is not an afterthought but an extremely well designed piece, that is very simple in its design, perfect for me as I have no interest in vinyl. It has a lot of digital inputs, but no analog inputs. As to its sonics, there are significantly better DAC's out there but they are mostly in mix and match systems, not in an all McIntosh system where I benefit from synergy very significantly.
