Default JL Audio Gotham V2 experiences.

Hi!
I’v recently upgraded my system with Gotham V2. I thrilled and it is better than I’v ever could hope for.

You can read about it and much more in my thread ”Apexorca systems” .

https://www.audioaficionado.org/show...=28971&page=59

It’s not easy to chose subwoofers that can blend in a perfect way in a system. I think Gotham V2 is great at that. Maybe one the best. There are som many smart things that JL Audio put into this subwoofer that makes it produce bass in what ever way you like it. Just calibrate and turn the knobs until it fits your vision.

It would be interesting to hear about your experience and maybe advices that is helpfull.

And PICTURES of course.

This is the best and biggest upgrade in my system. It does not just makes the system better in their field. It's a completely new field of music reproduction with a great subwooferintegration. I'm blown away.

Pics coming soon below.

It's a beast! 360 lbs and rounded corners. Not easy to lift.

One day it was standing outside our house.

4 people, me a friend and my son and his friend got it up some stairs and into the house. It was quite tricky to get in in place. After that everything was easy. 4 minutes later it was calibrated and ready to use.
The calibration is a walk in the park. One microphone in the sweet spot, no internet connection or extra computer that can screw it up. Just press CALIBRATE and be still and quiet.

This is the spot for JL Audio Gothamn V2.

It is standing on three damped feets.

Very polished.

After a day or two I came upp with these settings to make it fully integrated.

Tried the first week with a no name interconnect cable but upgraded after som few weeks to Nordosts subwoofer cable. Blue Heaven.
That change the sound a bit so a made a new calibration and fine tuned the settings a bit for best performance.

As powercord i use Nordost Brahma.

Can you see it? So small that you can hide it behind your speakers...

I'v been at demonstration with other subwoofer brands and how to calibrate and make the subwoofer integrated. Never it's so easy with so good results as with JL Audio. Due to my knowledge ther is no other brand that makes this so easy to get it perfectly integrated. For me that is when you never hear the subwoofer. It does not reveal it selves in the soundstage. It just ads low Hz with power, warmth, space, accuracy and richness in the soundstage and sound. When you are playing by lower volumes its more easy to get a good sound as well.

This is the crowded speaker cable connections in the back sid of The Sf.

From the sweet spot.

Congratulations! Your system looks amazing! On paper, it probably doesn’t look like a sub should do as much as it does, but it’s an amazing transformation. The only thing I can suggest is taking a look at the JL Audio CR-1 crossover. Ivan can help you with one. It helps blend the subwoofer with your speakers.

Carl… you may want to double check your Gotham settings; I still see pictures on the wall.

360 lbs pale in comparison to each Fenice which nets over 650 lbs each. My back hurts just looking at this ultra end setup! Congrats on a super fine addition!

It’s actually tri-amping One stereo Krell FPB is hidden in the rack. It’s FPB 400cx for the deep low 2x15inc woofers that’s playing below 80Hz .

I’v read about the crossover, but since I use tri-amping it’s hard do use it. I also use Gotham V2 below 35hz and down there it’s quite easy to blend it with the sound of The Sonus faber. But I’v been thinking that I could use the crossover from JL Audio just to the deep low under 80hz. But since it’s mixed so well right now I’m not that motivated for it. In time, maybe.

And you are right. My speakers (The Sf) can play very low, but still… there is almost never enough bass if you compare to acoustic live music. I don’t mean that it should be much higher volume in the bass, just much more bass to fill the room and load the room with power without getting the need of cranking up the volume, if you know what I mean. It has to do with how the bass couple with the room. Real bass from a symphony orchestra is big and maghty even then the volyme is moderate. That is my reference. One example among many is how one single bass tuba in a big space for symphony Orchestra can fill that space with big textured powerfull bass. It never comes near that experiance in a Hifi - system. But still it’s worth trying to get closer to that. If you start to get a big symphonic orhestra right in your system. All other kind of music will sound great to. AND a sub or two or three can help a lot.
I good subwoofer is important and to whatever big speakers you got it makes the music better I think.
Big membranes with a lot of membrane area, a lot of power and control can hardly be enough in the bass-region if you got a big room, lots of air and with good acoustics.
