Wish I could do a swap like that -- (or for that matter the KT150's too).

Best Sir,

Bob

They don't increase the power output because of the nature of the transformer, but they sound better sonically. I contacted C-J about the swap before I did it and they gave it their full support and recommendation. They really like these tubes. Their newest power amps are using these new KT-120/150 series.

McIntosh sez no go for the 120's and 150's in the
MC 2301 due to their increased filament current.

Did you have to send your L70S back to CJ for a reset on the power supply or did the KT-120s simply 'drop in'? When you say 'stock' 6550s, did you try any good KT-88s prior to moving to the KT-120s? You might have found the same improvement.

Not sure why one would want to move from the KT-88 series of tubes to the KT-120. From what I've seen of the listed spec's on the amps in which the KT-120 is used there is no gain in power. What am I missing?

Don’t know about moving from the from KT-88s to KT-120s, but moving from the KT-88s to the KT-150s in my VAC 450 Statement monos was unquestionably a significant leap forward in sound quality: much closer to real music.

Had a problem with the voltage regulator on one of 450s after the switch. But Brent Meyer with VAC did a great job of diagnosing the problem over the phone, and sending an assembly that was installed by a local tech without having to send the amps back to VAC.

Kudos to VAC for their excellent customer service!

Of course YMMV, but moving to the KT150s has my system sounding better than it’s ever sounded before in my room.

Hi Rojet,

Thank you. The dedicated listening room dimensions are approximately 18’x25’x12’.

Can't help with a local source for tubes in Oz, but talk to Jon at the Tube Store or any of the other NA tube sellers. They may ship overseas.

But, am wondering what happened to Bob (vintage tube)? Hasn't posted in over 4yr.
