In fact it has been quite reliable, though no longer in active use. The 04HD was the sweet spot.

Too bad Olive couldn't evolve and insisted on a closed ecosystem.

Glad you are enjoying them!
clpetersen.......I agree that the Olive 04HD is/was the sweet spot in Olive's lineup of music servers. I have no experience with the 03HD or the 06HD, although I have heard several horror stories from owners about 06HD failures. The Olive 04HD is the only music server they offered that also provides a digital input so that the unit can also serve as a DAC to an external digital component. That is a nice extra feature.

Like you, I remain impressed at the solid service both of my 04HD's have provided me over nearly six years. Even with the few touch screen control glitches I experienced before installing the 3.0 firmware update, overall my ownership experience with both 04HD's has and remains positive. I have to admit, though, even with both Olive 04HD music servers still providing great sound in the two systems, I have developed an itch for a second Aurender music server for the living room system. It is quite likely I will scratch that itch before long.

Hello,

I was trying to update my olive (4.3.2) to new FW 3.0 pressing TOP NAVIGATION button and FAST FORWARD button but it doesn't install correctly.

That what I saw on the screen when was updating:

https://www.photobox.co.uk/my/photo?...id=21860571003

and after 15 minutes of waiting I decided to restart it.

Before that my Olive that has some problem with freezing screen. Now screen is completly dead. So when I turn Olive on by pressing power switch located in the back of device nothing happens . Just sleep/wake button starts lighting. But when I try to reset device using standby button nothing happen. So I think that front panel is also not working.

I'm thinking if there is any other way to make it work again?

After all of those I found website :

https://www.lydo.nl/uncategorized/ol...ing-guide-2-0/

and information that maybe new HDD can resolve problem

Maybe You have some ideas, or have similar problem???

Bartek

Hi,

I have a 06HD with software ver 4.3.0 and firmware ver 2.0. Is there anyone have the sw 4.3.2 and fw 3.0 for 06HD? I tried to download both software from Lydo website, but they are not the lastest version.

Thanks in advance.

Hi ,
I'm new to this site, but have been reading bits n pieces from time to time.
I have a question which I hope someone can answer or help with.
I have an Olive 4HD which still works , however I updated my iMac to BigSur and inadvertently took out firefox which was allowing access via maestro.
I can still access Olive using screen and I wish to back up my Library via the rear USB.
I'm not super literate with all this, but am I going to have a problem with USB versions ?
I can't find what version the USB out on the olive is ?
Will I be able to purchase an SSB USB to back up to, and if / when my Olive fails, what are my options.
I was thinking maybe a Vault 2i ?
Assuming I'm able to back up the Olive to a USB ,will I be able to download that content into , say Vault 2i ?
Apologies if these questions are obvious to some. I would really appreciate some knowledgeable assistance,
Thanks in advance,
jayemmm

You should be able to back up the Olive to any USB stick or hard drive - USB is always backward compatible. It is possible that a very large drive may be recognized though - I would use no larger than the hard drive on the Olive. Olive uses a very proprietary way to store the music meta-data (i.e. tags) - how big is your library? I 'jail-broke' mine early on, and then moved on from Olive.

Hi clpetersen,
Thank you for your reply.I love my Olive but have only loaded my very favourite cds , around 110GB so might only require 1TB drive for the back up.Although, that said, I just discovered the cd drive does not appear to be happy.I tried to load and rip a Julia Stone CD and it made lots of fluter flutter noise ,and spat the cd back out.Bravely, ( stupidly ) I reinserted, with same result.
I have not tried a different cd but I'm sure I will get around to that, but thought perhaps back up prior to having the unit fail.
I have just had a nice session with Olive and its still awesome for me.
I have not been in residence where Olive is for some time and its nice knowing she still sounds good, despite the loss of maestro and possibly the cd drive too.
Its a world of pain to move to something else with vault 2i perhaps best for me and budget , have been browsing the cocktail i think 40x or similar.
The next question was if the back up is successful will that be able to be downloaded to whatever I purchase to replace Olive, which I assume would be the point of the back up.
Thanks again for your assistance, much appreciated.

Hi Masterlu,
Thanks for the welcome.
People on here certainly know their stuff.
My gear doesn't come close to any on here but I have loved what I have for a long time now.
Maybe magnepan and Sanders mag tech amp when I retire from work.
I have auditioned that combo a couple of times and liked it, although only in the retailers environment.
Thanks again for the welcome,
JM
