Jérôme.......This is fantastic news, a brand new turntable going into your system. I have no doubt it will perform to your expectations. Naturally, you'll want to insure that the arm and cartridge are set up perfectly. Like you said, many great arm and cartidge combinations leave much to be desired, and I feel that this is often to poor setup. Keep us posted on the new addition.

Happy to hear you enjoyed the CD. I did not copy protect it, so you can easily make copies if you wish. Perhaps Jean-Mark might enjoy it. It was my pleasure to do this for you. Was there music and/or artists there that you had not heard before?

I learned today how critical cart. set up is. My cart. was off by a half cm based on just using the gauge that came with the tt. I used the technics baerwald arc projector from vinyl engines website and my LP's never sounded so good. They have protractors for numerous tt on the site including a few generic ones. I used to think that my LPs sounded dull or had too little bass before. Not anymore. I have been listening to some of my 30 year old rock albums : Doobie Brothers-Toulous Street, from 1972 a classic that sounds fabulous on LP, several Steely Dan, Goucho , Can't by a Thrill all great, Rolling stones etc. etc.

As I could not hear any of them, I decided to trust him... BTW, the MC Talismann is about 300 euros less expensive than the MM Maestro. So I suppose his advice was the good one....
I'm very confident in buying a TT / arm / cart from the same company.
I think synergy is really important here.
I heared many TT's with great arms and great carts, not sounding that good.
If i'm not happy with the Clearaudio ( I seriously doubt it, after what I heared at Jean Marc's house), I will sell it and will buy the Xtension, with the Ortofon arm and Ortofon cart !

Cheers,
Jérôme
I'm surprised your dealer would suggest using a low compliance cart like Talisman with a low mass arm.

Hi Serge,
Interesting note. He may be wrong.
I will write a mail to Clearaudio tomorrow and see what they tell me...
Thanks,
Jérôme

Hi Dan,

I knew only the tune from G. Benson and A. Jarreau. I have the CD.
Did not know all the others. But I like them a lot.
Yes, I will make a copy for JM.
About TT set-up, you're absolutely right.
JM told me the dealer spent about 2 hours to set up the Clearaudio. He took all the time he needed. I bought it at the same dealer. We'll see...
Serge's note is very interesting. I will contact Clearaudio tomorrow.
Cheers,
Jérôme
