These two Schiit Audio partners have accumulated a wealth of digital and amplification design knowledge that certainly guides them today. That they have created a company capable of manufacturing state of the art digital products made in the USA at what are basically entry level prices is remarkable, commendable, and I'm sure profitable. Schiit Audio is a unique company with a bright future.
Just another thought Dan. Schiit could have easily followed the typical model approach of stuffing the same circuitry into a more blingy case and sold their DAC’s at multiples of price out the gate. It would have been accepted given the performance. They chose to bring value to the audio community instead.

Serge.......I agree with your point. As an example of how chassis, face plates, and trim can drive the cost of a component up, Charlie Randall, CEO of McIntosh, recently commented in a newly released video that a third of their amplifier production cost is in producing the chassis, face plate and trim. I can imagine if Schiit Audio had decided to produce the Yggdrasil DAC as a top of the line bling component, perhaps with a CNC milled chassis with isolated compartments, extruded top cover with milled logos, Stillpoints footers, and anything else they could have included to up the ante, the Yggy could have easily been introduced at the $10K level with its existing performance. Doing so would have drawn a different customer to the table who would be quite willing to write the check. Thankfully for the vast majority of younger, less well heeled buyers wanting to embrace high-end audio Schiit Audio has delivered multiple audio components that tilt the performance bar to a much wider audience.

That pretty much encompasses their mission statement, Dan.

Dan- I've had my Yggdrasil since they were first released. My point of comparison for musical reproduction is my experience of playing live music in small band, and Yggy delivers a realism of musical reproduction that satisfies my ears. I believe you will find Yggy to be a wonderful addition to any music system in your home.

PS- In terms of break in simply leaving it powered up 24/7, and give it 2 weeks. Yggy thrives with high-end power cords and interconnects. Enjoy!

Only one?!

These guys convince us more and more to buy Schiit gear with their fantastic reviews.
Imagine Dan adding one of his splendid reviews shortly, resistance will be futile...

W9TR-

I see you are using a Benchmark 3 series. Are you able to comment on a comparison of Yaggy and Benchmark 3? I am still considering a new DAC with the Gabby, Yaggy and Benchmark 3 series as the major contenders.

Jerome.......This forum has a way of generating new interests. It is not uncommon for those interests to manifest into a purchase. It has happened to me so often I lost count.

I too became captivated by the reviews of they Yggi so I ordered one several months ago and have not been disappointed. I have it in my bedroom system which consists of a Wyred STI-1000 v2 (class D experiment), Dynaudio Contour 20's and Bluesound Node2 source. I've never heard some of the high end DACs they Yggi has been compared to, Cord Dave or Lapizator but have compared it on my main system to the Modwright Elyse and its pretty much a push, I believe the tube driver stage and the good NOS tubes I have in the Elyse keeps it close. I don't think a pure solid state delta sigma DAC would fair as well, even one costing thousands more.
