2 preamps one 4B
My current system has McIntosh c2500 for 2ch audio and a Marantz av 7702 mk2 as a prepro. I pretty sure I know the answer to this but instead of using the HT bypass could I use unbalanced cables from the C2500 and balanced from the MK2 and just flip the switch on the 4B?
My guess is I would need to unplug the unused cable. The thing is I can go for a week maybe weeks only using my system for movies and it seems like a waste to be running the C2500. |

I have an Audio Research Sp-16 and a Krell Showcase. I use my Bryston 2.5 RCA connection for the Audio Research and the Balanced for my Krell processor. One reason I did this was to save tube life on the SP-16. My amp is at the top of the rack so it's easy to flip the amp switch.

Thanks Forte 4a. I will give it a try this weekend.
I'm interested in what James think I think I asked him this question or similar about 15 years ago and he said there may be a impedance change from leaving the unused cable plugged in but I can hardly remember what happened yesterday much less 15 years ago. |

Yes you can just flip the switch - no need to disconnect. james |

Thanks guys. Last night I tried it and worked great. One interesting thing. I have had a small ground loop that I thought was from connecting the 2 preamps together and my best solution so far as been a shield lift XLR adapter and with the XLR cable strait to the 4B I got a ground loop. The adapter worked it's magic so all is well.
