Default New piece of Schiit

After seeing a comment from Stephen here, I ordered the Schiit Wyrd.

I received it extremely fast even using Economy International. I've ordered it on December 16th and it was shipped a few hours after that.

First impressions are very good. The build looks great for this Wyrd piece.

The most impressive part is the power plug. It looks like any ordinary plugs but it's actually a linear power supply.

You can notice it when you take the Wyrd plug in your hand, this is much heavier than your ordinary one. It is almost as heavy as the Wyrd.

I haven't had the chance to plug it in with Christmas coming but I will give my feedback as soon as possible. For the time being some pictures of this Schiit

I've weighed the kit to show how Wyrd it is.

The main unit is 400g while the plug is 300g. This shows the care they put into having clean power and I'm sure many of us will appreciate the thought. Since I'm trying to avoid switching PSU, this was one of the argument that sold me and made me buy it unheard.

Unexpectedly I was able to find some time to listen to the system. The setup is easy and took me less than a minute. Plug the Wyrd, unplug the WW platinum USB from the Mac Mini, plug it in the Wyrd and plug a new USB from the Wyrd to the Mac Mini and voila.

And holy Schiit, that thing is good. The background is blacker, the bass is cleaner and the micro details are better separated from the rest.

The change is clearly noticeable from the first notes played and while not a game changer, this is additive to a system. For close to $100, what more do you need ?

Listening to Love for Sale by Chet Baker, I was struck by the bassist which is more present than previously. The instruments are very well delineated and the soundstage is even more precise now.

Moving on to Adele's Rolling in the Deep, Adele's voice is in the center and doesn't move from there unlike I experienced before. The background vocals are now much more precise and you can actually understand what they are singing.

Oscar Peterson Trio - You look good to me on We get requests has only confirmed the impression I had from the beginning.

I would suggest to anyone to check it out. You might be surprise by how far $100 can take you.

Can't they just change their name to something less funny, like Smuckers.

And make a device named 'Smuckers Jam' that plays sweet music!

Georges... You shouldn't be spending money on this digital Schiit, you have an SME V to buy! Good to know the Wyrd works well for you. You can advise me on going digital if I get myself sorted out.

Absolutely perfect and accurate description of the improvements Wyrd brings.

LOL! Ivan, you should head over to that headphone site and read Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up. It's a very good read (Jason Stoddard, co-founder, has an MFA in writing as well as his summa cum laude engineering degree). It's very well-written, funny, insightful, and lots of good, hard-earned wisdom in there about starting and running a successful audio company. Jason describes how and why they chose the company name they did. I work with a lot of smart people every day, and Jason is a SMART guy.
